7 Simple Steps to Become a Breathwork Facilitator

So you wanna become a breathwork facilitator? How exciting! Breathwork is one of the most powerful tools in our emotional and spiritual healing toolkits. It’s an accessible, self-guided practice that anyone can do, but when guided by a trained, trauma-aware professional it has an incredible capacity to bring us into connection with others, with the essence of who we are, and with higher realms of consciousness. As a breathwork facilitator, you’ll be offering yourself as a compassionate guide on this powerful journey of liberation for your clients. What a freakin’ COOL career path! I can’t think of one that’s better. 😉

In this blog, I’ll share with you the signs that you may be ready to become a breathwork facilitator, my journey of finding this path, the steps you’ll need to take to get started, and some tips for making your journey as smooth and successful as possible.

But first, I want to say there’s no one-size-fits-all answer here; the decision on whether or not to become a breathwork facilitator is a deeply personal one. But there are a couple of signs that you may be ready to take the leap. Let’s dive into those now!

Signs That You’re Ready to Become a Breathwork Facilitator:

#1: You feel a deep soul calling to support others in healing

I truly believe we have a soul curriculum before we hop into these human meat suits and come to this planet. We each have a role to play, and for some people, that’s becoming a lightworker and leader who uses their body as an instrument for love, healing, and transformation. If you feel called to raise the consciousness of the planet and serve as a guide for others on their journeys of self-discovery, then this could be your signal to start exploring breathwork facilitation.

#2: You have been personally impacted by breathwork

If you’ve experienced the power of breathwork yourself and come away feeling like”this is my path, my vehicle, my vessel to change the world,” and it’s one of the most powerful tools in your emotional healing toolkit, then this could be a sign that you’re ready to help others do the same.

This is how it was for me…

My Story of Becoming a Breathwork Facilitator & Trainer

I used to be a mindset coach, and for about a decade, that’s what I taught… but there came a certain point in my journey where I realized I wasn’t able to go deep enough in myself or my clients. I struggled with an eating disorder and body dysmorphia, and I had a really unhealthy relationship with my body and food for years of my life. When I found breathwork, it was like, “HOLY BANANAS….what is this MAGIC?!!!” I had no idea that I was this powerful. I had no idea I had this direct access to my intuition.

After that, I started to realize the limitations of mindset work which felt like a transfer of knowledge from coach to client but not the true lasting transformation that I craved. So I started learning somatic tools, also known as “body-based” tools (which includes breathwork), and the rest is history. I started to incorporate the body into my sessions and use my own body for transformation. I was able to see how effective these tools were at liberating stuck energy in myself and others. I started to see the infinite nature of humanity and how powerful we really are when we can surrender our minds and tap into our body wisdom.

Now, I use breathwork to help my clients unlock their intuition and align with their higher purpose, and I certified other breathwork facilitators to help me spread this mission. It’s been such an amazing journey of self-discovery, and I’m so grateful for this path.

If this resonates with you and you feel called to become a breathwork facilitator, here’s what you need to do.

How to Become A Breathwork Facilitator:

1. Practice, Practice, Practice!

If you want to become a breathwork facilitator, the first step is to practice as much as possible. This means connecting with your own body and learning how to move energy through your nervous system. I recommend taking classes, listening to teachers, and reading up on various techniques so that you can get familiar with different modalities of breathwork. A good place to start is the Pause Breathwork App. You can get a FREE 14-day trial here.

2. Find a Mentor

It’s important to have a mentor who can hold space for you and guide you through the process of becoming a breathwork facilitator. This will ensure that you stay on track and have someone to turn to when things get tough or confusing.

3. Join a Community Of Like-Minded People

The best way to become a successful breathwork facilitator is to surround yourself with a network of like-minded people who are also passionate about the practice. This could be other facilitators, mentors, healers, or clients. It’s important to build relationships with people who believe in the power of breathwork and understand the importance of creating a safe, healing environment.

4. Embody the Transformation Yourself

When you’re on a journey of becoming a breathwork facilitator, one of the most important things is that you go first. You must embody the transformation yourself. This means you have to do your own inner work, practice breathwork regularly, and challenge any beliefs or mental blocks that try to stop you from being the best facilitator you can be.

5. Learn Trauma-Aware Principles & The Science of Breathwork

In order to become a successful breathwork facilitator, it’s important to understand the science behind breathwork, our nervous systems, and how our brain chemistry changes as we breathe. It’s also important to have a trauma-aware approach so that you can create safe and empowering experiences for your clients without re-traumatizing them.

6. Activate your Unique Medicine & Magnetism

We each have a unique flavor of medicine and magnetism that comes from expressing who we truly are. It’s a vibration and frequency that only YOU have to offer that will be attractive to the clients and students that are meant for you. As a breathwork facilitator, it’s important to unearth the spiritual gifts that you have and learn how to share them with your clients. For some people (like me), that might look firey and loud, while for others, it might look gentle, soft, and slow. It’s important that you honor the way that you want to facilitate this work.

7. Get Certified

Finally, the BEST way to become an effective and safe breathwork facilitator is to get formally trained. At Pause, we offer a comprehensive, 6-month trauma-aware Breathwork Facilitator Training program that will give you the skills and knowledge to become a successful breathwork facilitator that includes ALL of the steps above…. so it might as well be step #1 😜

Through this program, you’ll experience A LOT of practice, be assigned a personal mentor, be surrounded by a loving and supportive community, dive deep into the science of breathwork and trauma-aware healing, reveal your unique medicine, and come out the other side knowing DEEP in your bones that have what it takes to offer powerful transformation for others.
